APN is
launching its 1 million tree Campaign in Palestine
In Palestine, the Israeli
occupation had destroyed and uprooted more than 1 Million
trees in the past two years! Many of which were olive trees.
The olive tree, a universal symbol of peace has been, and
still is, the object of conflict in the Arab-Israeli
conflict. The uprooting of the ancient olive trees, as a by
product of war, has had tremendous affects on the
Palestinian agriculture, economy, and identity. In
Palestine, the olive tree is prized for its historical
presence, its beauty, its symbolic significance, and most
importantly for its economic significance. Olive trees are a
major commercial crop for Palestine, and many families
depend on it for their livelihood.
The Israeli occupation also
started building the Apartheid Wall which has swallowed the
agricultural lands, separated families, uprooted thousands
of trees and destroyed all means of living for the people in
the area.
Due to all above reasons, we
want to start an International Campaign to collect financial
and moral support to replant Palestine, thus preventing its
people from another exodus, encourage and give them hope and
support.
Our main objective from
this campaign is to stop the Israeli abuse of the
Palestinian land and its people.
Our aims
in this Campaign are:
-
Raise awareness of the
dangers of Israeli attacks on nature and human
communities.
-
Help to preserve the
ecological balance of the land.
-
Generate income for the
Palestinian households deprived of their livelihood.
Our
activities in this campaign will consist of:
-
Collecting financial
support to be able to plant up to one million trees in
the areas experienced uprooting.
-
Establishing a website
for the campaign.
-
Preparing support
letters and distributing it through internet and media.
-
Producing advocacy
materials and distribute them internationally.
-
Establishing a National
Palestinian Committee on the issue of trees uprooting.
-
Establishing a Global
Network to support the Campaign.
-
Celebrating the Arbor
Day in Palestine each year and plant more trees.
-
Holding presentations
all over the world.
