Confirming APN's main impact in influencing environmental issues decision making in the region, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) delegated The Arab Group for the Protection of Nature (APN) to coordinate and organize a Consultative CSO Meeting, priot to holding the upcoming ministerial meeting (NERC 36), in which three candidates from Maghreb, North Africa and West Asia will participate.
This delegation was brought up during the meeting between APN and FAO that took place on Thursday, December 9th, 2021, via zoom, which was aimed at discussing the proposal to plant trees in Jordan and the proposal of the “Arab Tree Path” project.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Abdul Hakim Elwaer, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa, Mr. Kayan Jaff, Regional Adviser, Mrs. Dalia Abulfotuh, and Mrs. Valentina Franchi, as representatives of the FAO Office. With respect to APN, the meeting was attended by Eng. Razan Zuayter, APN Chairman of the Board, Mariam Al Jaajaa, General Manager, and Mohammad Qtaishat, Project Manager.
At the beginning of the meeting, Eng. Zuayter provided an overview of APN’s achievements, and the role it plays in promoting the concept of food security and sovereignty in the Arab region, especially in light of crises and conflicts.
Al Jaajaa presented an overview of a project proposal for planting trees and supporting small Jordanian farmers, which was approved by FAO's team, and they advised dividing the project into three phases, moreover it was agreed that, a specialized team from the organization will send additional recommendations at a later date.
