APN | Jalama – Jenin
13 February 2024
The people of Jalama village, situated north of Jenin, face ongoing threats and restrictions on a daily basis. These challenges are particularly pronounced since 96% of the village's land falls within areas classified as "C". Furthermore, Jalama serves as a critical juncture due to the presence of a checkpoint bearing its name. This checkpoint is a focal point of tension, particularly as it acts as a dividing line between the West Bank and the occupied territories.
To construct the Jalama checkpoint and the apartheid wall, the occupation seized approximately 700 dunums of arable land. Moreover, they barred farmers from accessing their lands, intentionally causing them to become barren. This strategy aligns with the old land law, which is manipulated to permit the expropriation of uncultivated land, thus facilitating further confiscation.
Despite these challenges, APN planted 1,000 trees with the backing of Abu Shakra Company as part of its Million Tree Campaign, rooting farmers to their lands.
