The “If Only You Knew” programme team held an awareness session at Jerash Preparatory Girls School titled “Food Sovereignty as an Environmental Solution”. The session aimed to deepen students’ understanding of agriculture and its vital yet often overlooked role in environmental sustainability. It also addressed the distinction between food sovereignty and food security, and introduced the concept of climate justice as central to building equitable, sovereign food systems.
APN Coordinator of “If Only You Knew” programme, Ghaid Al Harairi, spoke with students about how planting fruit-bearing trees links ecosystem health with strengthening local food independence.
The session saw active engagement from the school’s environmental committee. Several parents joined as well, reaffirming the importance of community participation in advancing food sovereignty and nurturing the ecosystems that sustain it.
