ILPS Resolution in Support of the Fight of Palestinian Prisoners

Resolution in Support of the Fight of Palestinian Prisoners for Their Rights and Well-being Called the “Battle of Empty Stomachs.”

Submitted to the ILPS ICC on the 27th of September 2022

Whereas the Zionists, with the backing of US imperialism, have engaged in ethnic cleansing in Palestine since 1948;

Whereas. the Zionists have turned the refugee camps where the displaced Palestinians reside into virtual Nazi concentration camps;

Whereas, the Palestinian people has used various forms of struggle to assert their rights and fight for liberation;

Whereas, Zionist Israel presently detains some 4,650 Palestinians in multiple prisons including 180 children and 32 women;

Whereas, 743 of these prisoners are being held without trial under the Israeli government law on administrative detention;

Whereas, many of these prisoners have undergone physical and mental torture and are denied their rights under international law;

Whereas, the Israeli government has taken to the inhuman and macabre practice of detaining the bodies of Palestinians whom they have killed, refusing to turn them over to their families;

Whereas, thirty of these political prisoners are holding a hunger strike called the “battle of empty stomachs” and are ready to renounce their lives to put a stop to detention without trial and highlight their demands: to:

  1. Stop detention without trial;
  2. Family visits every two weeks;
  3. Increase in family visit time from 45 minutes to one and a half hours per visit;
  4. To allow photographs of the prisoners to be taken for the benefit of their children;
  5. To allow children under sixteen years of age to visit;
  6. The closing of unfit hospitals and referral of sick prisoners to proper medical facilities;
  7. To put a stop to the medical neglect of the prisoners;
  8. To allow prisoners to undergo the necessary medical tests and urgent medical and surgical procedures;
  9. The immediate release of prisoners who are suffering from untreatable and terminal illnesses;
  10. That the medical costs of the diagnosis, care, and treatment of the prisoners be borne by the Israeli government;
  11. The humane treatment of prisoners;
  12. The stop to the practice of prolonged solitary confinement;
  13. The immediate release of the bodies of deceased Palestinians to their families.

Be it resolved that the ILPS ICC condemns the inhumane treatment of the prisoners and expresses its support for the action of these “living martyrs” and their demands.

Stop Detention Without Trial!

Long Live the Struggle of the Palestinian People for Self Determination and Liberation!
