APN continued its Green Caravan journey by planting 200 different fruit-bearing trees (orange, pomelus, clementine, lemon, and olives), in the Blawneh region - Central Jordan Valley on Thursday, 10 October.

APN Project manager Mohammad Qteishat said the new season holds for farmers an agenda of activities targeting a number of locations in the central, southern and northern regions of Jordan Valley, in addition to other locations in Madaba, Aqabah, Maan and Irbid. The new plans, part of APN’s Green Caravan program involve planting more than 15 thousand fruit tree saplings over a period of six months.

The Green Caravan is one of the most prominent projects carried out by APN which aspires to empower Jordanian small farmers, encourage the national product, enhance food security and raise environmental awareness of citizens on the importance of agriculture.

In an area of the central Jordan Valley, APN planted within the same program on Oct.10, 2019 a further 200 tree saplings (oranges, pomelus, clementine, lemon, olives). Twenty volunteers took part in the planting of the saplings carried out in coordination with Naua Initiative. The land of the farmer Mahmud Al-Alawneh benefited from the planting work.

The promoter of this initiative, who preferred to remain anonymous, donated the full cost of trees and participated in planting.  She explained that she initiated this activity for her brother’s spirit who died as a fetus in the womb of his mother. She also stated that these initiatives had positive impacts on farmers for providing them with a sustainable income as well as volunteers who experienced a sense of purpose. Mohammad Qtaishat,

APN’s Project Manager, accompanied the volunteers during the activity and provided them with necessary guidance for planting.

APN also planted a large variety of trees in the central Jordan Valley, with the support of the Bank of Jordan. They included citrus, figs, olive and grapes trees.

The agricultural work was conducted on November 30, 2019 in cooperation with the Ahliyya for Agriculture with the participation of 70 Bank employees who volunteered to plant the trees.

Two farmers with ten-member households will benefit from the tree planting in their land.
