APN calls for the involvement of CSOs in the National Strategy on Solid Waste Management | The Arab Group for the Protection of Nature

Invited  by the  Water and Environment Committee of the Jordanian Engineers Association (JEA), APN Projects Manager Eng. Mohammad Qtaishat participated in the  seminar  "The Jordanian Experience in waste recycling" held at JEA on 15 Dec. 2014.

The event was organized under the patronage of Minister of Municipality Affairs, Eng. Walid Al-Masri, JEA President Eng. Abdalla Obaidat, and President of Water and Environment Committee Eng. Sana Al-Labadi.Eng. Al-Masri stated that 50% of the municipality costs are expended on waste treatment. He added that there are a lot of economic opportunities in investing differently in waste. -Eng. Qtaishat of APN stressed that civil society organizations (CSOs) need to be involved in the National Strategy on Solid Waste Management.

The intervention was considered as one of the main recommendations of the event.The event aimed to raise \ awareness and enhance efforts to find solutions to waste challenges and improve the current methods of waste management.The participants discussed several papers: one presented by Eng. Zaidon Al-Nsour  on the experience of Greater Amman Municipality  in managing solid waste, a second one presented by Mr. Hasan Al-Abour on the experience of the private sector in metal recycling, and a third paper presented by Eng. Mohammad Radwan Al-Momani on the role of recycling in protecting water resources.
