Arab Group for the Protection of Nature Chairperson Razan Zuayter delivered a presentation on the 'Arab Tree Path' to the Arab League Sub-committee for the Eradication of Hunger. The presentation was delivered to prepare for submitting a document for the project to ministers of agriculture and water from a number of Arab countries. The document has already been approved at the Fourth Meeting of the sub-committee that was inaugurated by Dr Nada Ajizi, Director of the Department of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation at the Arab League and Dr Wadid Erian, Sub-committee Rapporteur (December 8, 2020).
The Arab Group for the Protection of Nature and the Arab Network for Food Sovereignty are working together to implement the the 'Arab Tree Path' project under the umbrella of the Arab League. A number of agricultural activities will take place in Arab countries as part of the project. The Arab Group for the Protection of Nature will continue implementing the Million Tree campaign and the Green Caravan as part of the project, which may both be considered as model campaigns or activities for the 'Arab Tree Path'.
ُThe Arab League Sub-committee for the Eradication of Hunger has confirmed that the 'Arab Tree Path' document is underway and is urging member states to provide technical support in preparing the document.
The meeting was held virtually and included representatives from five Arab countries, six specialized organizations from the Arab World, four regional and international organizations, to include FAO, ESCWA, IOM, and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia. Representatives from several civil society intuitions and the private sector also participated in the meeting, to include the Arab Federation for Fertilizers, the Arab Federation for Food Industries, a foundation for food banks, and the Arab Youth Platform for Sustainable Development.
