APN| Amman – Zoom
26 June 2024
After years, Mariam Al Jaajaa, APN General Manager, returned to her alma mater, SOAS University, joining from Amman the encampment that students have maintained for about 50 days in solidarity with Gaza. Many lectures have moved to the protest area, where students of all nationalities gather to oppose the genocide in Gaza. Al Jaajaa was invited to speak about agricultural resistance in Palestine.
In light of the ongoing and renewed war of starvation against Palestinians, Al Jaajaa provided an overview of the founding of APN, highlighting our mission of promoting food sovereignty in the Arab world, particularly in Palestine and Jordan. She discussed the organization's role in rehabilitating the agricultural sector, influencing environmental, agricultural, and food policies, and mobilizing civil society to be more effective.
She provided a glimmer of hope in confronting the war of starvation in Gaza by launching the "Reviving Gaza's Farmland" project, which stands as the only agricultural initiative on the ground. This project aims to support 500 farmers in the sector to plant their orchards with seeds in its first phase. She called on the attendees to spread word of the project and to join in its efforts.
