APN General Manager, Mariam Al Jaajaa, delivered a significant intervention in a webinar focused on the interplay between Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly in the context of today’s pressing challenges, including climate change, natural disasters, and conflicts. The webinar was attended by members of the Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP) – South and East Asia affiliated with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

In her intervention, Al Jaajaa brought attention to the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the impacts of wars and occupation on the different components of the environment, most importantly, the human population, which also requires safeguarding. Furthermore, she exposed the weaponization of the environment during periods of conflict, exemplified by Israel's actions in cutting off essential supplies like water, food, and electricity to Palestinians in Gaza. She inquired about the value of this platform and sought effective actionable steps that IUCN-CEESP can take to address these violations more effectively.

It's worth noting that APN has been a member of IUCN for 15 years, actively pushing for resolutions, that have successfully passed, which recognize and demand accountability and compensation for environmental violations during wars, conflicts, and occupation.
